Green Eggs and Ham 4th period

Green Eggs and Ham is an absolute classic, who dosent love this poem and how much of an impact it has had in all our lives. There are three main literary elements  used in the children’s poem green eggs and ham. They are repetition, irony, and theme which are very important parts in a poem and what makes this story so great.

Repetition

in green eggs and ham repetition is a very prominent literary term used. through out the whole poem phrases are repeated multiple times. like  SAM-i-am and do you like green eggs and ham? repetition in this poem creates emphasis at the persistence SAM has to let the guy try green eggs and ham. it is probably the most repetition Ive seen in a poem every but its effective for the moral of the story like never giving up and its a useful characteristic for a children book.

Irony

in green eggs and ham there is a sense of irony because through out the entire poem. Sam-i-am trys to feed the guy green eggs and ham and he refuses saying that he does not like green eggs and ham. he doesn’t want it in a box with a fox or a house with a mouse he doesn’t want here or there or anywhere. but Sam-i-am does not give up and finally he tried the green eggs and ham. what makes it ironic is he told SAM-i-am that he didn’t like them the whole story and then at the end after he tried he said he loved them.

Theme

for the last literary term used in green eggs and ham i have chosen theme.which is a  fundamental and universal idea explored in literature. themes are often used to give some kind of meaning to the story and moral. this is great to use in childrens books because it teaches good manners and life lessons they can use there whole life. The theme of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham is to  have an openmind. You shouldn’t sa you don’t like something if you,ve never tried it this is a very important lesson in life.

In closing to this awesome essay! I would like to say green eggs and ham Is the best poem EVER? Because it has a great use of repetition which creates and carves the moral and meaning in your head. Irony which shows and presents the moral to the audience. And theme which is the main idea and moral connecting to the story’s.
